Turn a Corner

Dave and Barb March 20, 1982
Turn a corner. That's how quick your life can change. It happened to us 31 years ago.
Happy Anniversary Dave!

Turn a Corner

I turn a corner
his kitchen full of
laughing friends
Dark-lashed
merry blue eyes
welcome me
the unexpected guest

“I’m here
to see Laura…
your roommate”
awkwardness
explained
his smile
disarming

Laura appears
“Ready to go?”
“You can stay,”
he says
Laura shrugs

I’m not here
to see him
or am I?

Barbara, I love this poem. It tells so much and is romantic without being overly sweet. Congratulations on your anniversary. You and Dave are a wonderful couple. Patsy

This comment from an email, an old friend and witness at our wedding. Thanks, Cynthia.

Wow! 31 years tomorrow! Was it really that long ago that we all gathered in Nevada for your wedding? Congratulations on all your years of marriage. I read your new post, and that picture really takes me back.

Love this poem, so sweet. And the picture is a classic, dare I say even a little bohemian?! Congrats on the many years and counting!

Thanks, Patsy. Glad you liked the poem. Dave and I hope to have many more years together. You and Lee are a great example of lasting love too!

Thanks, Christina: I know you mean bohemian in a good way. We got married in Virgina City and took pix in front of that sign for laughs.

I love this poem, too. It sounds as if a chance meeting turned into something wonderful indeed!

I agree how this is romantic without being overly sweet. You captured the spark of that first meeting perfectly. Congrats on your anniversary and on your poem, too.

Thanks, Rachelle: Glad you stopped by and enjoyed the poem. Yep. I'm a lucky girl.

Email from Donna:

I love the reference to turning the corner, as an act of fate. And it is a precious memoir of a significant moment in your life. Well done, Barb.

Thanks, Donna: The writing prompt was I turned a corner...(that made an easy start)

Thanks, Jackie: Glad you liked the poem. I received so many nice responses for this poem that I'll have to start working on the poem for next year's anniversary!
